Course Number: Otolaryngology PM 14
Description & Objectives:

This is our 8th Annual Update in Otolaryngology course; the host department has rotated between Columbia and Weill Cornell and all Updates have been affiliated with New York Presbyterian Hospital. Otolaryngologist/Head and Neck Surgeons practice both the medical and surgical aspects of our specialty. Advances can come rapidly from different areas. Most educational courses focus on a particular part of the specialty, such as sinus surgery, otology, or facial plastic surgery. Therefore, there is a strong need for a comprehensive update course in the New York City area. This course will allow the participants to receive a cogent but comprehensive update and review on all aspects of the specialty, at a single course. Similar courses are held in other parts of the country, and are highly-rated and well-attended. This course is designed for practicing otolaryngologists and residents in training nationally.

It is intended that this Columbia University CME activity will lead to improved patient care. At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

• Identify current evaluation and treatment of common otologic disorders.
• Evaluate the latest treatment for diseases of the skull base.
• Distinguish different approaches to rhinoplasty and facial plastic reconstruction.
• Analyze the diagnostic evaluation of patients with voice and swallowing disorders.
• Identify the current role of surgery in the management of patients with head and neck cancer.
• Analyze the current evaluation, medical and surgical treatments for common problems in pediatric ENT.
• Evaluate the basic and advanced techniques in rhinology and sinus surgery.
