Specialty Updates for the General Pediatrician

Access Activity

Overview / Abstract:

Maintaining a current knowledge base in pediatric subspecialties is challenging in this time of rapid expansion of new information. This one day CME event is aimed at presenting general pediatricians and primary care practitioners with significant updates across a broad range of subspecialties within the field of pediatrics. Expert faculty in ophthalmology, surgery, urology, gastroenterology, dermatology, neurology, nutrition and obesity, and otolaryngology will discuss important and clinically relevant updates in each field. This CME activity is designed for office based primary care physicians who wish to expand their clinical subspecialty knowledge base and improve their ability to accurately diagnose, manage, and refer pediatric patients with specialized problems. The program will also provide interactive question and answer sessions following each talk, allowing attendees the opportunity to interact directly with faculty.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be better able to:

•Identify the gastrointestinal and extra intestinal manifestations of celiac disease
•Discuss growth related issues of children with celiac disease
•Review celiac disease screening and testing
•Identify changes in nutritional parameters in adolescents undergoing bariatric surgery
•Describe the implications of changes in nutritional parameters for ongoing health maintenance in adolescents post bariatric surgery
•Identify changes in metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors in adolescents undergoing bariatric surgery
•Apply treatment guidelines for concussions in various age groups
