Overview / Abstract:

Program Overview
This module will focus on the guidelines as they relate to the role of lung function in the diagnosis and management of asthma. The goal is to enhance the ability of primary care providers (PCPs) s to diagnose and manage patients with asthma, thus improving clinical outcomes for each patient.

Target audience
This activity is designed for physicians and nurses who care for patients with asthma.

Learning objectives
After the completion of this course, the learner should be able to:
-Employ family, social, economic and environmental history, physical examination, and pulmonary function testing in the differential diagnosis of asthma.
-Discuss the importance of objective measurements of lung function in the diagnosis and management of asthma.
-Recognize the importance of spirometry and other measures of lung function in the prediction of severity and future risk of exacerbations.
-Identify objective measurements of lung function that warrant consultation with an asthma specialist

Method of Participation
In order to receive credit, participants should read the entire monograph, complete and submit an evaluation and score at least 70% on the self-assessment test.
