Assessing and Improving Value in Cancer Care -Potential Actions for Improvement of Existing Systems
Activity Provided By
The Society for Translational Oncology
Overview / Abstract
1. Describe the factors that can change the clinical value of a drug after the cost-effectiveness studies performed at its initial introduction into the market.
2. Describe coverage with evidence development (CED) and explain how CED may promote greater certainty regarding research conclusions regarding the value of cancer treatments and better inform post-regulatory decision makers.
3. Discuss the limitations of randomized controlled trials to inform clinicians regarding the effectiveness of cancer treatments in the real world and promote the use of large, simple clinical trials, cluster randomized trial design, and registry data to more directly assess treatment effectiveness.
4. Identify unique aspects of oncology that compound clinical uncertainty regarding treatment effectiveness.
