Developing Personalized Action Plans With Patients With Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis (AD) or atopic eczema is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterized by an itchy, red rash most commonly found in skin creases.It is prevalent in 25% of children and 2% to 3% of adults. Quality of life issues associated with atopic dermatitis include: severe itching and resulting sleep loss, social stigma, negative impact on interpersonal relationships, loss of wages, loss of work and school productivity, restrictions on some activities, frequent applications of medication, costs of treatment, and frequent visits to health care professionals.Education to dermatologists is needed to close gaps related to utilizing evidence-based recommendations for therapeutic options and tailoring treatment to individual patients to improve quality of life.
