Overview

The American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) was founded in 1953. We are a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement of neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, and electrodiagnostic (EDX) medicine. Our more than 5000 physician members -- primarily neurologists and physiatrists -- now are joined by allied health professionals and PhD Researchers working to improve the quality of medical care to patients with muscle and nerve disorders.

The AANEM provides the following resources to these healthcare professionals:

  • Education
  • Professional Standards
  • Advocacy
  • Communications
  • Research

2013 A Basic Approach to Common Upper Extremity Mononeuropathies and Brachial Plexopathies

Objectives: Readers will acquire skills to: (1) Identify and distinguish the anatomical and clinical features of upper extremity mononeuropathies and brachial plexopathies, (2) design and perform EDX studies for assessment of median, ulnar, and radial neuropathies and brachial plexopathies, and (3) correctly interpret the EDX findings when studying median, ulnar, and radial neuropathies and brac...

Electrophysiology of Neuromuscular Disorders in Critical Illness

Neuromuscular disorders, predominantly critical illness myopathy (CIM) and critical illness polyneuropathy (CIP) occur in approximately one-third of patients in intensive care units. The aim of this study was to review the important role of electrophysiology in this setting. Results: In CIM, sarcolemmal inexcitability causes low amplitude compound muscle action potentials (CMAPs) that may have ...
