Dr. John Hart, a world-renowned gastrointestinal and liver pathologist, and Dr. Ming Zhou, an internationally known authority in urological pathology, join an elite roster of speakers for this fourth annual 2.5-day general surgical pathology course.  Covering a broad range of subjects in diagnostic pathology, the central themes for this year's course include updates in the new grading system of prostatic cancer and recent perspectives on Barrett's esophagus.  Organ systems discussed include gastrointestinal, genitourinary, gynecologic, head and neck, soft tissue, endocrine, skin, neurologic and hematologic.  Presentations will involve a practical discussion of diagnostic challenges, need-to-know molecular updates, and emerging issues.  Attendee participation is encouraged via audience response system and engaging case reviews.

Target Audience

This course is designed for pathologists, pathologist assistants, pathology fellows and residents, and allied health staff with an interest in diagnostic pathology.  It is also intended for surgeons and oncologists with an interest in new pathologic staging criteria.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Illustrate pertinent clinicopathologic features of Barrett's esophagus and celiac disease.
  • Identify key distinguishing features of various renal tumors and define new entities.
  • Integrate updates in the evaluation of endometrial carcinoma, ovarian carcinoma, soft tissue tumors, and breast carcinoma.
  • Demonstrate challenging staging questions in the genitourinary tract.
  • Describe updates in reporting of thyroid and urine cytology.
