Overview / Abstract:

Alveolar ridge deficiency has been one of the limiting factors in implant dentistry. In cases with ridge deficiency, bone augmentation is needed prior to implant placement. Several factors affect the treatment approach and success of bone augmentation procedure, including the size and shape of the defect, the location of the defect, etc. Each of these features can affect the efficacy of bone augmentation, either in a favorable or unfavorable manner. Therefore, the approach utilized needs to thoroughly analyze and classify site and patient characteristics, to select an appropriate technique, material and protocol. Modular Bone Augmentation (MBA) refers to an approach, which is based on the convergence of several components required for successful bone regeneration. Different modules of MBA can be employed, based on anatomical and site characteristics.

Describe classification of defect morphology, based on site features
