Ryan Colburn Dr. Ryan Colburn, DVM earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology with Honors from Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 2006. He went on to earn his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University in 2010. He completed a one-year rotating internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Blue Pearl Veterinary Specialists in Grand Rapids, Michigan after which he served as an attending emergency clinician for one year. Six months into that year of emergency work, Dr. Colburn also became the part-time veterinarian for the John Ball Zoo until his emergency contract had been completed. In the Summer of 2012, Dr. Colburn transitioned into the full-time role of zoo veterinarian at the John Ball Zoo. In this role, he oversees the zoo's veterinary medical, nutrition, and animal welfare programs and provides veterinary care for over 2,000 animals of over 200 species. |
